This pattern contains both written and charted instructions.

Common Dittany is one of few plants that will produce Frost Flowers, or thin petals of ice from water drawn up through the roots in late fall and winter. Frost flowers form when the ground has not yet frozen, but the air temperature will freeze the water drawn up from the plant’s roots.
The Frost Flowers stitch pattern used in this shawl resembles the dittany plant buds, while the drop-stitch edging reminds me more of the actual ice petals created by the frozen moisture.
This shawl is adjustable in size with repeatable charts and can be worked in laceweight or fingering weight yarn. It is recommended to reserve approximately 25% of your yarn for the edging to ensure you can maximize your yarn usage.
